As providers of Luxury Toilet Hire, Event Washrooms get to visit some really great events to set up our VIP Toilets. Many of the events are private functions, such as weddings, or invitation only corporate events. However, we have also had the pleasure of providing our services to some really great outdoor entertainment events that are open to the public.
Outdoor entertainment is becoming extremely popular, especially in the more southerly counties of London, Essex, Kent and Hampshire – probably because of the slightly warmer and drier weather.
This blog is our round up of some of the fun and interesting outdoor entertainment events that are happening throughout summer. Check out the websites links provided for latest events, booking and prices.
There’s something extra special about theatre performed in the outdoors. Going back to the times of William Shakespeare and theatres such as The Globe, plays were most often performed outdoors. Only the expensive seats had any form of shelter above them, the stage and the standing area were open to the elements.
Regular outdoor theatre can be seen at
The Globe, London (www.shakespearesglobe.com) – take in performances of The Bard’s classics in the theatre setting they were intended for.
Regents Park, London (openairtheatre.com) – frequent performances throughout the summer months – next production, Lord of the Flies (September 3rd to 12th)
Woburn Abbey (www.woburnabbey.co.uk) – recent performances include Pride and Prejudice and Much Ado About Nothing.
Most outdoor cinemas in the UK are not quite like the drive in cinemas popular in the USA. Outdoor cinema in the UK is steadily growing. Pull up a deck chair and your bucket of popcorn and enjoy.
Somerset House (www.somersethouse.org) is a popular setting for outdoor movies. Recent movies include Last of the Mohicans

If you do want to try the American drive in cinema experience, you’ll need to head North to Liverpool or Manchester where route66driveincinemas.co.uk do just that. You tune your car stereo in to a frequency that plays the movie sound through your car speakers and you can order hot food to be delivered to your car.
Apart from the obvious music festivals across the UK during summer, there are many other outdoor musical events, usually of classical music or opera. Some highlights are
Highclere Castle, better known as Downton Abbey (and at 4 other stately home locations, see www.battleproms.com for more info) a ‘battle proms’ concert and picnic
Chatsworth House (www.chatsworth.org) features events including a Proms Spectacular and also Jules Holland and his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra.
